Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Alan Pendleton, today officially opened The Ponds $8.5 million Eastern Playing Fields precinct, one of the flagship sports facility in Sydney’s North West.
The sports and recreational facility, located on The Ponds Boulevard, comprises two high-quality playing fields, four multi-purpose courts, four netball courts as well as a playground. Additional features include a fitness trail, two ponds, training standard lighting, extensive landscaping and a car park accommodating 165 cars.
Kerry Robinson, General Manager – Development for Landcom said, “This high quality facility has attracted strong support from the community and local sports groups throughout the North West region. We are proud to have delivered this important recreational and sports precinct for the area. Landcom spent many months working with Council to ensure the design of the facility best meets the needs of the local community.”
“The Ponds, which is the fastest growing suburb in New South Wales, is the perfect place to build this new amenity as it strategically situated in the North West growth corridor. Over 2,500 residents are now living in The Ponds and are expected to make full use of this facility. John Palmer Public School will use the facilities for school sports in 2012.”
“The delivery of the Eastern Playing Fields precinct is yet another example of Blacktown City Council’s partnership with Landcom in delivering first class facilities for our new and existing communities,” Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.
“This facility provides healthy, active recreation opportunities for many people. Council looks forward to providing additional facilities such as this in the future as our great City continues to grow over the coming years.”
The circular playing field area is able to accommodate a variety of winter and summer sports and community events. The multi-purpose built tennis courts and netball courts can also be used by other sports groups such as basketball, futsal and other court based sports.
The child friendly equipment featured in the playground boasts an adventure theme. Shelters, seats, shade structures, fitness equipment, bike racks, bins, tables and seats and barbeques are also included in this area.
Landcom contracted Profile Landscapes Australia to undertake the construction of the multi-million dollar project.
The Ponds is a 320 hectare master-planned community which is being developed by Landcom and Australand. It will comprise over 3,000 homes when complete.
