BRIDGE OPENS UP NEW SUBURB

The Hon Mr John Aquilina, Member for Riverstone this week officially opened the Stanhope Parkway bridge across Second Ponds Creek in The Ponds.

This bridge will eventually connect The Ponds to adjoining suburbs including Quakers Hill and Schofields.

“The $3 million Stanhope Parkway Bridge is an integral piece of The Ponds infrastructure as it links the eastern and western parts of the community, allowing residents to move more freely in the suburb. It provides residents with easy access to the Blacktown Leisure Centre and Stanhope Gardens shops and Rouse Hill Town Centre,” said Carmen Osborne, Development Director from Landcom.

“Demand for land at The Ponds has been very strong with over 670 land lots sold since its launch just two and a half years ago. As a direct result of these sales, land on the western side of the suburb will soon be accessible following completion of the bridge,” she added.

Award winning landscape architectural practice Clouston Associates provided the urban design for the bridge. Bridge features include iconic red pylons, provision of a separate cycleway and pedestrian path, as well as an underpass which allows for continuous access along the parkland corridor. It is one of four road bridges planned to cross the Second Ponds Creek corridor.

Justine Williams, Associate Director for Clouston Associates adds, “The bridge features large red decorative pylons to signal the crossing of Second Ponds Creek and provide a contrast to the tall creekline vegetation. The bridge is designed to be one of a number of design features that occur along Stanhope Parkway including; the public artwork “Float”, the water quality pond with dragonfly artworks, Second Ponds Creek itself and the Juluk Moon artwork which is an indigenous piece, yet to be installed further along Stanhope Parkway.”

“As visitors and residents enter The Ponds they will have the opportunity to experience a sequence of events as the structures unfold along the road, creating a high quality visual streetscape for the local community,” she added.

Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure™ constructed the bridge and Western Earthmoving was responsible for the civil works and bridge approaches.

The Ponds is a 320 hectare master-planned community which is being developed by Landcom and Australand. When complete it will comprise over 3 000 homes and 80 hectares of parkland.
